Analytical Overview

Mean travel times range from under 7 minutes to over 25 minutes.  The map seems to show that workers from more rural areas are required to travel further to get to their place of employment.  Even those more rural areas which are closer to Interstate Route 86 do not show an improved travel time versus the more populated places.  With recent and potentially future increases in gas prices, this map raises some interesting questions about employment-related demographics and opportunity costs for rural workers.

The demographic data used in this map was acquired from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Factfinder Census 2000 Summary Files: 2000.
